Snow was designed for sledding, but with what sled?? Having grown up in the Hoth-like tundra that is Rochester, New York, I've tried nearly every sled on the market. Here are my picks for the top 5 most magnificent sleds, forged by the sledding gods themselves.
KWIK TEK HAMMERHEAD SLED
There's all sorts of high-end sleds that tear down the slopes, but this thing was engineered to fill your need for speed. It's light weight, with an aluminum frame and polycarbonate front skis, and has a sweet steering mechanism that puts you in total control. It ain't cheap, but if you can swing the cost, pick up a Hammerhead and set the slopes on fire.
SUPREME PIZZA SNOW TUBE
It's pizza time! The inflatable tube revolutionized the sledding landscape. Not only does it minimize the bumpy terrain, but it adds the delightfully terrifying excitement of spinning while you race downhill. If you haven't experienced a sled run atop a cushy pepperoni pie, get your cheese on!
TUBE PRO DOUBLE RIDER
The more the merrier! Tube Pro makes a super durable two person sled that makes every sled run twice as thrilling.
FLEXIBLE FLYER TOBOGGAN
All aboard! With six feet of sled, everyone can get in on the action. These things aren't the easiest to steer, so make sure you've got a clear path ahead, but with four or more people piled on, you'll reach riveting speeds. Flexible Flyer makes a killer toboggan, just make sure you shell out a few extra bucks for the pad runner (your butt will thank you).
LUCKY BUMS SLED
Have sled, will travel! Lucky Bums wins the gold for keeping it simple yet effective. Their formula for success seems elementary, but it's the execution of their product that makes it work. Their contour design + sturdy plastic = a spectacular sledding adventure for all!
